Introduction

READING IS A MUCH MALIGNED TOWN. TOO MANY PEOPLE SEE IT ONLY FROM THE RAILWAY AND DISMISS IT AS A MODERN PLACE…NO TOWN IN THE SOUTH OF ENGLAND HIDES ITS ATTRACTIONS MORE SUCCESSFULLY FROM THE VISITOR.”

John Betjeman – Poet

“Recently I have become aware of how many negative, unfounded comments about Reading have affected the way people think of this town, and I want to do a little to offset this. Reading has many attractive places and an interesting history – to ignore this is the first step towards losing what we have.”

Liz Kerry –  Artist

“We agree with you both!”

RG Spaces

Sitting on a double decker, generously supplied by Reading Buses to take us to Reading Assembly in Tate Modern, London, Liz described her aim to make a hundred paintings of Reading to illustrate its interesting spaces. RG Spaces pricked up its ears and the 100 Pictures of Reading project was born.

You can see the paintings as they are added here and we aim to exhibit them at various venues during 2018.

Pembroke Care Family Fun Day

A small but fun opportunity to introduce some of the paintings to Reading residents. The tricycle acting as Art Gallery, and our patent Velcro-based hanging system, meant visitors could have the paintings brought to them rather than vice versa. Particularly effective was being able to take a whole strip of paintings to wheelchair users.
